Multivitamin Antioxidant - We Discuss Multivitamin Antioxidants
By: Jean Helmet
There are numerous multivitamins in the market today. But, most of them don’t actually offer the benefits of really powerful antioxidants. The reason is that, their formulas do not even contain these antioxidants. However, some are undoubtedly good.
The name “multivitamin antioxidants” comes from the fact that most vitamins are themselves also considered antioxidants. Antioxidants are nutrients that can neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive chemical substances that are present in our cells. If they are left unchecked, they can lead to premature aging and disease.
Vitamin C and E are the important vitamins that encompass anti oxidant properties. Therefore, any multi vitamin antioxidant product will contain these vitamins. On the other hand, these vitamins are weak antioxidants when compared to the nutraceuticals. Nutraceuticals are specialty nutrients that are more powerful antioxidants than the vitamins. These specialty nutrients are used in high end supplement products.
Beyond Just your Typical Multi Vitamin Anti Oxidant
Alpha lipoic acid – this is a special nutrient and antioxidant that is more powerful than simple vitamins. It is used to treat and prevent a wide range of age related diseases, including diabetes, cataracts, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. It also aids in boosting the immune system.
It is also important to note and make sure to consult your doctor before taking supplements of any kind, especially if you are being treated for an existing health condition or if you are on any kind of prescription medications.
Resveratrol - Resveratrol is the substance found in red wine. This received major news coverage, a couple of years ago in the New York Times. In fact, you will be surprised to discover that the French, who smoke a lot and eat a lot of fatty foods, yet don't suffer from rampant cardiovascular diseases as Americans do. The reason is because of their red wine consumption. Specifically, the nutrient, resveratrol, has been isolated and is believed to account for its health benefits. Studies in the U.S. regarding resveratrol have shown to extend the life span of yeast cells by up to 80 per cent. But resveratrol is not found in any typical multivitamin antioxidant product.
Here is one last example of a nutrient that is not found in an average multi vitamin anti oxidant product.
Turmeric -- Turmeric is a persistent native to India, and has a long history of use in India's Ayurvedic medicine. Turmeric root extract is made into a strong compound called curcumin. And it is curcumin that encompasses the therapeutic benefits. Curcumin is used for flavoring and in spices, in preparing many Indian dishes. Apart from good taste, it also offers a lot of health benefits. Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant, neutralizing free radical damage, and acts as an anti-inflammatory, which may help mitigate arthritis pain. It also harbors anti-carcinogenic properties.
This is not all. Turmeric offers additional health benefits including slowing the development of prostate cancer on tumor cells. This was the conclusion of an experiment conducted by a university with tumor cells in a lab dish. Likewise, another study at a major University revealed that a mixture of curcumin and isoflavonoids is the strong inhibitor against the growth of human breast cancer cells.
